A new MC number works, but much of the freight market treats it as unproven. An aged authority with continuous insurance gets you past that on day one.

Broker and shipper setups
Many brokers require 6–12 months of active authority and some want 2+ years before they'll onboard a carrier. Load board access such as Amazon Relay also has its own requirements.

New entrant period is behind you
FMCSA monitors new carriers for 18 months and schedules a safety audit within the first 12. An aged company has already been through it.

Underwriters price new ventures higher. Years of continuous coverage and clean loss runs usually mean better quotes and more carriers willing to write the policy.
